About

The house with black cats in Riga enjoys no less popularity than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The graceful pair of cats with their tails cocked upwards and their backs arched has become an unofficial symbol of revenge, which, as you remember, is a dish best served cold.

According to legend, a merchant was not accepted into the Trade Guild, so in response, he built a house opposite the building where the society met, and placed two black cats on the roof. Notably, the animal figures were positioned with their tails turned towards the windows of the wealthy merchants. The house with the black cats is located in the Old Town on Livu Street. Today, it houses a casino and several restaurants. The facade of the building is crowned with a sculpture of a soaring eagle, and above the entrance, there are floral "decorations" featuring a charming female head.
