About

The medieval and thoroughly soaked in its historical past, Old Town is the colorful center of Riga. It is here that the most significant attractions are located, including the famous capital cathedrals.

Occupying the right bank of the Daugava River, the Old Town has secluded itself from the outside world with two streets and boulevards, which, like royal guards, day and night protect its peace for hundreds of years. Once, the cobblestone pavements echoed with the clatter of Henry of Latvia's horses' hooves, and the wheels of carriages merrily bounced on every stone, rushing to the start of another ball. Today, every building and every meter of cobblestone is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage, and the Old Town itself has earned the well-deserved title of "monument city".
