Jest to główny zabytek Śnipiszek, dzielnicy rozciągającej się za Mostem Zielonym. Kościół łącznie z przylegającym do niego klasztorem powstały w latach 1702-1730 w stylu późnobarokowym. Wewnątrz kościoła zachował się bardzo cenny zespół dziewięciu rokokowych ołtarzy. We wspaniałym ołtarzu głównym umieszczono z kolei obraz Święty Rafał Archanioł.
