About

In addition to the grandeur of Baroque buildings, Vilnius is home to structures built in the finest traditions of Gothic style - one of which is the Bernardine Church (Church of St. Francis of Assisi).

The ancient church is located in the very center of Vilnius, surrounded by parks with fountains: from the outside, the temple is majestic and somber, but the interior decor is characterized by the complexity of forms and richness of decorations, unusual for Catholic churches. The extraordinary beauty and refinement of the church are hard to confuse with other buildings - it is a must-visit for tourists and also an integral part of city walks for locals.

At Christmas, live goats can be seen at the entrance of the church, and services are held to the sound of guitars - the Bernardine Church surprises tourists with its uniqueness.

You don't need tickets to visit the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. It's a very impressive structure, and very close to other Vilnius landmarks. I enjoyed my visit, and would recommend visiting the Church of St. Francis when in Vilnius.

Kościół powstał pod koniec XV wieku, pierwotnie jako budowla drewniana. Istniejący obecnie budynek pochodzi z XVI wieku. Kościół jest przykładem gotyku ceglanego. Fasadę świątyni zdobią dwie wieżyczki, zaś do tylnej części świątyni przylega dzwonnica. W środku na uwagę zasługują zwłaszcza rzadko spotykane piękne sklepienia kryształowe. Ściany zdobią piękne freski przedstawiające sceny z Biblii. Warto też przyjrzeć się 14 pięknym drewnianym ołtarzom wykonanym z drewna klonowego.
