Prechistensky Cathedral in Vilnius
About
The Prechistensky Cathedral is situated in the heart of the Old Town, it is filled with wealth and grandeur: both its facade and interior decoration astound with their scale and beauty. The church is located on the outskirts of the Old City, right on the banks of the Vilnia River, its foundation goes back to Prince Olgerd, who laid the first stone in 1346. But after his reign, difficult times began...
By the beginning of the 19th century, the temple was in a state of near ruin, after which ownership rights were transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church, which has held them to this day. A complete reconstruction and historical restoration have done their part - the church is thriving and delights tourists daily with its monumental appearance.
"There is a sense of some ancient sanctity here," say the old residents of Vilnius, believing in the special power and energy of this place.

Cerkiew została ufundowana przez matkę Władysława Jagiełły w XIV wieku. W XVII wieku przekazano ją unitom. Później była wielokrotnie niszczona i odbudowywana. Swój obecny kształt uzyskała w wieku XIX. Cerkiew stoi nad brzegiem Wilejki wpadającej kilkaset metrów dalej do Willi.
