About

The sculpture "The Three Muses" is a small structure depicting three slender beauties, patronizing the art of creating life on stage. This piece is located above the entrance to the Vilnius drama theater, on Gediminas Avenue.

The author of the work is Stanislaw Kuzma, who installed his creation in 1981. According to his concept, the three female figures are associated with Greek goddesses guarding the main entrance to the temple of arts.

Locals say that depending on your mood, the weather, and the angle of view, the figures look different. It's as if something makes them come to life and change from day to day, attracting tourists with their unusual appearance. Many city dwellers can no longer imagine the city theater without this sculpture - it's a common meeting spot for friends and lovers.

The National Drama Theatre of Lithuania is completely hidden behind the surrounding buildings. Luckily, above the entrance of the theatre, the sculpture of these three muses is displayed to alert the unsuspecting passerby (or the visitor) to that entrance. It certainly works, because my attention was definitely drawn!
