At first glance, the Baptistery gives a sense of grandeur to the structure, against which everything else seems simple and miniature. The Gothic and Romanesque styles go hand in hand in every inch of the Baptistery, manifesting in its arches and columns. Surprisingly, the entire structure is made of marble, which only enhances the initial impression.
The building is divided into two levels - each with its own unique features. The lower level is entirely dedicated to episodes from the life of John the Baptist - the very one who baptized Christ in the Jordan. The upper level is occupied by Christ himself with the Virgin Mary and John, surrounded by angels, archangels, and evangelists.
