About

Located on the Knights' Square right in the heart of Pisa, the Church of the Order of Knights of Saint Stephen has become one of the city's most significant landmarks. Its pristine white marble facade still remembers the times of the Medici, and its high bell tower has called parishioners to mass more than once. The church has undergone several reconstructions, but its Romanesque-Gothic style has remained unchanged through the centuries.

During the times of bloody maritime battles with the Saracens, the defenders of the faith acquired many trophies. The most valuable of these are still preserved in the church, among the labyrinths of sculptures and oil paintings that reflect the life of the entire knightly order. The altar is adorned with a sculpture of Pope Saint Stephen and two allegorical figures - Religion and Faith.
