About

Once upon a time, the mighty walls of Pisa served as a medieval "barrier" for the Republic. Encircling the historic district of the city, the walls have been preserved in their original form since the distant year of 1155. The height of the stone structure reaches 11 meters, and it goes another two meters underground. This "chain" of walls stretches for 7 kilometers, becoming an insurmountable obstacle for conquerors and rebels alike.

Today, tourists from all over the world thoughtlessly trample on the dusty blocks of the fortress walls without any regret. It's hardly surprising - the place is popular among visitors. According to the designers' plan, defensive towers were to be placed every 300 meters along the walls. By the way, one of them is called the Tower of the Lion, and another bears the name Santa Maria.
