About

The dazzling façade of white marble and side arcades, reminiscent of the aqueducts from the times of Ancient Rome, fill the Tempio Malatestiano cathedral with a true Gothic vibe where every archway is intended for burial sarcophagi according to ancient traditions. The central portal is enhanced with an elegant triangular fountain, surrounded by whimsical geometric decorations, and right at the entrance, visitors are greeted by seven symbolic chapels with the tombs of honored Rimini residents. Malatesta, after whom the cathedral is named, was excommunicated by the Pope himself, and the construction in his honor is still considered by some to be somewhat blasphemous and overly cultish.

Grote dak overspanning. Veel bas-reliefs. Veel marmer.
