Resort town of Rimini
Rimini is a popular Italian resort that combines delicious cuisine, clear sea, sandy beaches, and numerous attractions. The coastline of Rimini stretches for 15 kilometers along the Adriatic Sea.
The resort caters to a wide range of tourists, so it's confidently recommended for families with children, young people, and the older generation alike. Travelers will appreciate the water activities, thalassotherapy centers, attractions, and the dolphinarium. There are plenty of exquisite restaurants and nightclubs here as well.
In between swimming in the sea and sunbathing, vacationers visit the historical part of the city. Rimini existed even during the Roman Empire, so there’s plenty to see here. The Tempio Malatestiano, Arch of Augustus, Tiberius Bridge, Sismondo Castle, and Piazza Tre Martiri, where Julius Caesar once gave a speech, are must-visit places for every traveler. In the northern part of Rimini flows the Rubicon river, associated with the name of Julius Caesar. According to legends, it was the site of a difficult battle for Caesar, giving rise to his famous phrase “to cross the Rubicon.”
When to go?
Since Rimini is primarily a beach resort, vacationers visit the city in the summer. The resort season in Rimini lasts from May through September. Thanks to its advantageous geographic location, extreme temperatures are rare here, making the resort a pleasant and not exhausting place to relax. However, if you dream of walking along a deserted beach, breathing in the fresh sea air, and exploring local sights, then choose mid-autumn or early spring for your trip.
What to buy?
Shopping in Rimini is traditionally resort-like. Along the main street by the sea, Viale Regina Elena, there are stores with souvenirs, beachwear, accessories, and jewelry. Tourists looking for luxury Italian brand boutiques should head to Cavour Square and Tre Martiri Square. Rimini is the place to buy genuine Italian shoes. Here, you'll find all the popular brands and labels. Moreover, there are shoe factories in the region.
If you’re looking for something more interesting, consider taking a trip to the tiny republic of San Marino, which is twenty kilometers away from Rimini. San Marino is a tax-free zone, so the prices for clothes, perfumes, and alcohol are lower. Don’t forget to bring home a traditional liqueur from San Marino in an amphora-shaped bottle.
What to try?
Rimini is located in the Emilia-Romagna region, whose cuisine is simple yet wholesome. Traditional local dishes are made exclusively from fresh, seasonal, locally-produced ingredients. Through this, you'll get to literally taste Rimini.
The signature dish of local cafes and restaurants is homemade tagliatelle pasta with seafood. Every chef has their own secrets for preparing this basic dish. Also, when at the resort, you should try the green lasagna with spinach, potato gnocchi with gorgonzola cheese, and grilled seafood.
A distinctive fast food in Rimini is the plain flatbread piadina with various fillings. For dessert, order a crostata – the combination of crunchy shortcrust pastry and fresh fruits will leave you captivated. Rimini also excels in preparing Italian desserts like tiramisu and panna cotta, which have gained worldwide popularity.
Where to stay?
In Rimini, there are more than one and a half thousand hotels of various star ratings. Therefore, you won't have any trouble with accommodation, and you can easily book a hotel in Rimini. The sought-after and expensive options for overnight stays are located along the seafront on the first or second line. For those wishing to stay comfortably in a homely setting, there are numerous villas and guest cottages available for rent throughout the summer period.
