About

Pope Paul V with his hand frozen for a general blessing, the "Pigna" fountain made entirely of white marble, and Teatro Comunale, which introduced the world to Verdi's famous opera "Rigoletto" in 1857 - Piazza Cavour is a focal point of the cultural life of the entire Rimini, drawing into its embrace not only tourists but also locals who are in love with their city. The square is also home to the Garampi Palace, whose walls now shelter the municipal offices, and the Palazzo dell'Arengo, symbolizing an endless yearning for freedom and housing the famous fresco "The Last Judgment". Back in the distant 1330s, another masterpiece was erected - the Palazzo del Podesta, which served as a home for the so-called podesta or "people's appointee", who governed the place and did not belong to any dynasties.
