Palazzo del Podestà Palace in Rimini
About
Once, podestàs or appointed rulers, endowed with the supreme authority to punish and pardon, lived here, but today the Palazzo del Podestà is filled with exhibitions of books, paintings, illustrations, and photographs. Time has done more than all the public uprisings and riots, sparing only the building's architecture, as if it was intimidated by its formidable appearance. The palace's facade is divided into five windows and is complemented by special notches, which are commonly referred to as "swallow's tails" for their striking resemblance. Such a feature, seemingly purely decorative, played an effective protective role during attacks, enhancing the overall impression of the building. The Palazzo del Podestà fits perfectly into the overall style of Cavour Square, though it draws attention with its proud exterior.
