In the very heart of the French capital, more precisely on the Île de la Cité, lies the oldest and at the same time the most mysterious cathedral - Notre-Dame de Paris. Previously, the site was home to the first Christian church in Paris.
The construction of the cathedral started in the 1160s and lasted about 180 years! However, despite such a lengthy period, everyone who participated in its creation was able to preserve the main concept of a Gothic cathedral.
The building owes its worldwide fame to the novel of the same name, written by Victor Hugo. Following which, an order for the cathedral's reconstruction was almost immediately issued, which lasted 23 years. During this time, the appearance of the cathedral was enhanced with chimeras, and in front of the main facade, a square was created from which all the roads of France start, as indicated by the commemorative plaque: "0 km".
