Cuenca

To appreciate the rugged beauty of the legendary hanging houses of Cuenca, it's worth crossing the iron bridge to the walls of the San Pablo monastery. Stroll along the road through the gorge to the dramatic theater. Then head to the Contemporary Art Gallery. Arrange a photoshoot at the viewpoints and go explore the historical center of Cuenca, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The facade of the Gothic Cathedral faces Plaza Mayor. Nearby, you'll find several medieval churches and monastery complexes. A walk through the northern part of the city offers views over the gorge above Rio Jucar and the ruins of a 12th-century castle. Nearby is the station for Europe's longest double zip line - 445 meters.

To the south, at Plaza la Merced, find the fascinating Science Museum of Castilla-La Mancha. Nearby is the famous Plaza Mangana, the site of a medieval Arab fortress. The main attractions are the tall clock tower and the viewpoint.

Walk through the Túnel de Alfonso VIII, taking photos with the colorful houses in the background. Stroll along the stairway by Andres de Cabrera Street. Check out the multimedia displays at the Museo de la Semana Santa. To see a panorama of the Old Center, cross to the opposite side of the gorge via the San Antón bridge.
