Pamplona

In early July, the streets of Pamplona are filled with the white and red hues of the most extreme Spanish festival, Sanfermines. For nine consecutive days, at 8 am, six bulls begin to run through the city streets, from Mercado de Santo Domingo to Plaza de Toros. The festivities conclude with a fireworks show at the square near Catedral de Santa María la Real.

Begin your exploration of Pamplona at the city walls and the star-shaped Citadel, complete with bastions and gardens, with free entry. The most beautiful views of the city and river are from the heights of Mirador de Cabello Blanco at the Bastion and Royal Ravelin. An alternative option is the observation deck of the Cathedral.

The old streets of the historic center, Casco Viejo, lead tourists to the Town Hall, Ayuntamiento. Nearby is the Museum of Navarre and the spacious Plaza del Castillo, which Hemingway mentioned in his novel. A sculpture of the writer can be seen near Café Iruña, whose interior remains unchanged. Every day at noon, you can hear the Anthem of Navarre at the Government House. To restore your energy, order the famous pinchos - snacks on skewers - at any café.
