Hungarian National Bank in Budapest
About
The Hungarian National Bank fulfills three important functions simultaneously, upon which the entire country's economy is based: issuance, credit, and settlement functions. The bank was established in 1924, taking over the state role from its predecessor with Austro-Hungarian "origins".
Hungary's national monetary center is located at Liberty Square, like most of the country's influential institutions and services. A unique feature of the Hungarian National Bank is its ability to look festive and bright at any time of the year. This "appearance" of the building is owed to architects who managed to combine European modernism, Hungarian ornamentation, and even Islamic motifs in one place. The bank's "highlight" is its roof, decorated with images of dragons and angel wings.
