St. Stephen's Basilica, also known as St. Istvan's Cathedral, is located in Pest and is considered one of the most significant Catholic shrines in the country. The entrance to the ancient building is preceded by words from the Gospel "I am the way, and the truth, and the life," written in Latin.
The height of the basilica reaches 96 meters, including the dome, which inside is painted with scenes of the creation of the world. The church itself is designed in the neoclassical style, and its shape resembles an equilateral cross. The interior of the cathedral dazzles with its beauty and richness. In addition to numerous mosaics and stained glass windows, it houses the relics of St. Istvan, which are brought out for veneration every year on August 20th.
