About

Perched high on the hill with natural protection, The Church of Our Lady of Buda Castle is a stunning testament to Gothic and Gothic Revival architecture designed by Frigyes Schulek and Samu Pecz. First opened in 1255, this historic building boasts one of the most beautiful church interiors in the Gothic/Romanesque style. Standing tall at 80 meters, it offers breathtaking views of the river, bridges, and houses along the river bank.

Despite its severe damage during WWII, the church has been lovingly restored by the Hungarian State between 1950 and 1970. This landmark has witnessed significant events, including the storied 'Mary wonder.' Visitors can also explore a museum within its walls, making it an enriching experience without the hassle of large crowds.

Accessibility is convenient with a funicular for easy uphill access and bus services available for physically challenged individuals. The Church of Our Lady of Buda Castle, with its impressive 4.8 Google rating, is a must-visit attraction in Budapest.

Beautiful Church, with incredible details. It is totally worth going up the tower for the breathtaking view. Be careful if you cannot handle closed spaces as the stairs are very strict with no windows through almost 200 steps.
