About

The statue of Saint Stephen I is located at the Fisherman's Bastion under the "protection" of an ancient stone wall that stretches for 140 meters. The monument was crafted and installed in its rightful place to commemorate the Millennium of Hungary.

The sculpture of the Hungarian king is filled with symbolism and the finest details. In Stephen's hand is a cross, symbolizing the conversion of the people to Christianity. The monument is guarded by four lions, representing the four principal apostolic evangelists. Additionally, the monument is adorned with bas-reliefs from the life of Stephen, among which one can spot the figure of the sculptor himself, offering the king a new model of the future church.
