About

The Plague Column is a common sculpture found across many European countries, including Hungary. The column, topped with the statue of the Virgin Mary, is located on the Buda side.

The Plague Column symbolizes the townspeople's gratitude for being spared from the "black" death and plague that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. Traditionally, the monument is surrounded by numerous statues of saints. Constructed in the Baroque architectural style, the column is situated in the Holy Trinity Square near the St. Matthias Church. This attraction draws numerous tourists with its unique name alone.
