About

From a distance, the shoes on the Danube Promenade might be mistaken for real ones - each pair is so similar to authentic leather boots or patent leather women's shoes. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that all the shoes are made of bronze - slightly worn and adorned with St. George's ribbons.

The shoes on the Danube Promenade are yet another reminder of the terrible times when the world was engulfed by the Nazi plague. The "piercing" monument on the banks of the Danube in the Pest side is dedicated to the Jews who were killed at this site. In those bygone days, Budapest was often called Judapest, as a significant portion of the local population consisted of members of the perpetually persecuted people.
