The Warsaw Barbican is a semicircular fortification built in 1540 on the site of the old city gates, dividing the Old and New Town. Throughout its history, the barbican was used as a defensive structure only once, during the war with the Swedes. Today, it is a popular museum and a venue for exhibitions and presentations. Here, you'll find a memorial sculpture of Jan Kiliński, the leader of the Warsaw insurgents during the Kościuszko Uprising. Another monument is the Little Insurgent, symbolizing the national liberation movement and commemorating those who died in the war.
