Once, archbishops were buried here, a young Mozart was baptized, and Florentine masters adorned the interior with frescoes, unaware that the Cathedral would stand for centuries, enduring the fire and water of relentless history. The facade of the modern building features marble cladding and two identical towers, while inside there is a bronze font into the quiet waters of which the future great composer was lowered with a prayer in the distant eighteenth century. Another highlight is the huge organ with four thousand copper pipes, gathering the congregation with its roar to the next mass. The cathedral also hosts a small museum preserving numerous treasures of a bygone era and visited by tourists from all over the world.
