About

If we were to award the cathedrals and churches of Salzburg with medals "For Significance," the Franciscan Church would confidently take second place, only surpassed by the city's cathedral shrine. The Franciscan Church's austere Gothic structure, supplemented by Baroque and Romanesque styles, lacks vibrant colors; instead, muted gray shades are seen everywhere. The windows, with their unique placement, filter the incoming light, allowing every detail of the starry vault and each wall painting to be observed in detail. The main decoration of the altar is the figure of the Virgin Mary with the Child, along with sculptures of Saints Rupert and Virgil. Tourist tours of the church are possible only after the services when the organ music and divine hymns have faded away, lost somewhere between the columns.
