Kollegienkirche Church in Salzburg
About
Collegiate Church or the University Church, from its very foundation, became a benchmark of Baroque architectural style, and the four separate chapels built for the Benedictine University assumed the role of symbols for the university's four main faculties. The altar of the church was painted by the well-known-at-the-time Rottmayr, enhancing the external splendor of the facade with sculptures, stucco, and exquisite carvings. The interior decoration of the Collegiate Church is painted in an abstract style, which visually enlarges the scale and expands the space. It is said that Mozart himself was so struck by the beauty of the church that he generously composed several of his outstanding works for masses that still take place in the traditional Catholic rhythm.
