Kyiv Pechersk Lavra
About
One of the most interesting attractions to visit in Kyiv is the Kyivo-Pecherska Lavra. It is one of the most ancient and significant male monasteries. It is located on the right bank of the Dnieper river, and its territory stretches across two hills. A stone church on this site was founded back in 1073, yet it was only consecrated 16 years later! The richness of the interior is complemented by mosaics and pictorial frescoes created by Byzantine masters. Today, just as in the past, the main feature of the Lavra are the underground caves, where the founders of the Russian monarchy are buried.
