Kyiv

Kyiv, like a green blanket, spreads out along the banks of the Dnipro River. It's a modern, rapidly developing city, but despite this, it also has a grand history and an extensive biography. The history of this place can be leisurely explored, like turning the pages of a book, walking through its shady boulevards and admiring not just the modern, but also the ancient architecture. A few days won’t be enough to see all of Kyiv’s sights! Mikhail Bulgakov himself considered Kyiv not only one of the most beautiful cities but also one of the "greenest". Its territory is home to a significant number of squares and parks with unusual benches and sculptural compositions!

When to go?

Kyiv is constantly at the heart of cultural and political events. The best time to visit the Ukrainian capital is traditionally considered to be during the May holidays, when the chestnut trees begin to bloom and the air is still clean and fresh. The city has not yet heated up from the already warming spring sun, but it has become warm enough for leisurely strolls through ancient streets.

What to buy?

What to choose as a souvenir from a visit to Kyiv is up to each individual. One option is to commission your portrait or a caricature from a local street artist.

On Andriyivskyy Descent and at Maidan Nezalezhnosti, a wide variety of handmade items are offered in abundance, ranging from clay pottery to gerdan - a beaded neck decoration. To remember your trip, you can purchase wooden carved items, for example, a pipe, a traditional Ukrainian wreath, or a motanka doll - a house charm.

Recently, buying a hand-embroidered vyshyvanka has become trendy, with a vast selection offered by local artisans. T-shirts with patriotic prints are also highly popular and will make an excellent souvenir for your friends.

For a relatively reasonable price in Kyiv, you can buy an eco-friendly bag made of natural fabrics, and even shoes made of technical hemp. To cap off your visit, it's worth buying the traditional "Kyiv Cake".

What to try?

Arguably, the most famous dish of the capital is rightfully "Chicken Kiev" – a type of cutlet consisting of tenderly pounded chicken fillet wrapped around a bit of butter.

Among locals and city visitors, the "Kiev Perepichka" enjoys great popularity, for which people sometimes line up for kilometers. Essentially, it's a Ukrainian hot dog, distinguished by its cooking method and secret ingredients. You can buy it in many places, but the tastiest one is sold in the Khreshchatyk area.
