Jerez de la Frontera

The city of emotions and wonderful mood, the birthplace of flamenco and aromatic sherry. Start your exploration of the city at Plaza del Arenal with its fountain. Take a stroll along the mighty walls of the Alcázar, an 11th-century Moorish fortress. On Fridays, a flamenco show is held in the courtyard of the fortress.

From the fortress, it's an easy walk to the western gates of the medieval city wall via the most beautiful street in the city, Calle Ciegos. Nearby is the Cathedral with its tall bell tower. On Market Square, visit the municipal archaeological museum. Don't miss the unique show at the Andalusian School of Equestrian Art.

At the eastern part of the city wall, visit one of the oldest religious centers of the city, the Santo Domingo Monastery. Relax at Plaza Mamelon with the monumental equestrian sculpture Gran Break. The main shopping street of the city is Calle Larga, featuring magnificent palaces, mansions, and the iconic La Moderna bar. Local delicacies can be purchased at the nearby Abastos market.

For adult tourists, a must-visit is the bodegas (wineries) located around the perimeter of the Old Town. The most famous tasting rooms include Fundador, Álvaro Domecq, Cayetano del Pino, and Lustau. After sunset, you can sample sherry and tapas in local tabanco bars.
