About

The arrival of spring in Vilnius is announced not only by early birds and warm winds - a popular and quite unusual sculpture has become a symbol of spring freshness and new life. The artwork is located at the end of Pylimas Park and attracts tourists daily, offering a temporary escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The Margutis sculpture was erected in 2003 and represents a two-meter tall Easter egg weighing about 300 kilograms - the figure is supported by a granite column, making the piece hard to overlook.

The colorful painting of the egg was done by artist Lijana Turksite: she accurately reproduced the style of Lithuanian Easter painting, using plant and geometric ornaments, as well as a pleasant natural color palette.
