About

The Church of San Zaccaria is undoubtedly among the most unique places in Venice. It is located on a quiet square near the Riva degli Schiavoni promenade. Built in the 9th century, the church embodies a combination of several contrasting styles - Gothic and Renaissance. Originally, the reconstruction of the basilica was undertaken by the architect Antonio Gambello, a proponent of the Gothic style. However, after his death, the main architect became Caducci, who was more aligned with the Renaissance era. The interior of the church is equally fascinating. Entering it, one might think they've stepped into an antique shop, its walls adorned with priceless Italian canvases. In the north nave, one can see the magnificent Bellini's "Madonna with Child and Saints." From the right nave, one can enter the Chapel of San Tarasio, whose vault is decorated with frescoes by Andrea del Castagno, as well as works by d'Alemagna and Vivarini.
