It is believed that San Zanipolo (Santi Giovanni e Paolo) is the most magnificent church in Venice, erected in the finest traditions of Gothic style. The building is striking in the austerity of its architecture and grandiose proportions. The interior of the church is plunged into semi-darkness. Here, the groin vaults appear to be tightened by wooden beams resting on stone columns. Paintings from the city's history adorn the walls, along which the tombs of doges are situated. In total, the remains of 25 distinguished citizens rest in the church, for which Venetians often refer to it as the Pantheon. San Zanipolo resembles a museum more: painted ceilings, ancient stained glass, intricately carved tombs, and bronze statues. The canvases in the chapels, belonging to the brushes of Giovanni Bellini and Lorenzo Lotto, also deserve attention.

Находится собор чуть поодаль от привычных туристических маршрутов. Тем не менее, я бы советовала обязательно осмотреть его. Снаружи собор не очень привлекателен, если сравнивать с другими церквями Венеции. Зато внутри он значительно краше. Здесь можно увидеть различные скульптуры, барельефы и картины. Особенно меня очаровало полотно «Святой Антоний» Лоренцо Лотта.
