1997 replica of a 1683 wooden statue that is located in the national museum. The statue is called "Big Christopher". A plaque tells the legend about Big Christopher and the founding of Riga. The legend is that Christopher once carried a child across the river. Being exhausted, they both fell asleep after the crossing. In the morning where the child had slept, Big Christopher found a chest of gold coins that were used to establish the city.
