About
Riga residents often refer to the Daugavgriva fortress as "new," because just about four hundred years ago, it was located in a completely different place. Occupying part of the land on the right bank of the turbulent Daugava River, the fortress was always at risk of collapsing due to the river silting up, which led to its disassembly brick by brick and relocation.
Over more than four centuries of its existence, the fortress has changed hands multiple times, passing between Bolsheviks, Estonians, and Germans. Today, it is a common sight to see groups of tourists on tours, peacefully walking near the landmark. Interestingly, during the Soviet Union times, the Daugavgriva fortress was used as a secret site, concealing a military facility that belonged to the Baltic Fleet behind its walls.

Ļoti laba vieta pastaigām.
