About

The Monument to the Founders of Odessa is a magnificent sculptural composition dedicated to the five people who laid the foundation of the splendid city - Catherine the Great, Jose de Ribas, Francois Poullet, Grigori Potemkin, and Platon Zubov. For a long time, the fate of the monument was uncertain. Constructed in 1900, it stood for twenty years, only to be dismantled later. The residents and guests of Odessa were able to see it again only in 2007.

For the restoration of the sculpture, both previous designs and modern elements were used. In particular, the silhouette of the empress remained unchanged, only her head had to be recast. The column on which Catherine stands was made of red granite, while the lower pedestal was made of gray.
