About

The "Sailor's Wife" monument is a relatively recent sculptural creation, devised and brought to life by A. Tokarev in 2002. It is located in the Seaport, serving as a dedication to all those who believe and await the return of a sailor who has set off on a long journey, hoping he will surely return to his native shores and be warmly welcomed.

This slightly melancholic, yet at the same time bright and kind monumental work, features a young lady holding a little boy tightly in her embrace. The sailor's wife's gaze is silently, hopefully fixed on the horizon, while her son, standing on the parapet, reaches out his little hand into the distance, as if trying to touch the one they are seeing off...

Everyone who sees this monument forms their own interpretation of the events, relating them to different times and historical dates. There is even a belief that those who leave the city by ship, to return to Odessa, must wave to it.
