About

The monument to Princess Olga is a large composition that includes three sculptures - the Princess herself, Apostle Andrew, and Cyril and Methodius. The sculpture was erected twice. The first time this happened was in 1911. Eight years later, the monument was destroyed, and some figures were boarded up. For four years, a bust of Taras Shevchenko stood in place of Olga, but it was later dismantled. In May 1996, the city authorities decided to return the composition to its rightful place. The sculptures were restored and placed back in their original location. Today, all the sculptures are carved from white marble, and the pedestal for them is carved from pink granite, which presents a very beautiful and eye-catching combination.

The Princess Olga Monument is a beautiful and historically significant site located in the heart of Kyiv, near St. Michael’s Monastery. The monument honors Princess Olga, one of the most respected figures in Ukrainian history. When I visited, the atmosphere was peaceful and respectful, with people taking photos and enjoying the open square. The sculptures are detailed and well-maintained, and the location offers great views of the surrounding landmarks. Definitely worth a visit if you’re exploring the historical center of Kyiv!
