About
The Altmarkt square serves as the center of public life in Saxony. The buildings located here demonstrate the diversity of architectural trends across different historical periods. It is precisely due to such a unique architectural "flavor" that concerts, exhibitions, and markets aimed at various age groups are constantly held here. The oldest and, at the same time, most popular market held in the square is the "Striezelmarkt". During the New Year holidays, it attracts 500,000 tourists!
The market square has been a trading venue since the 12th century, and since the early 2000s, numerous shops and restaurants have appeared there. The "Altmarkt Galerie" enjoys particular popularity - it is an entire block with a unique character of its own. Today, office spaces and a hotel designed to accommodate more than 150 rooms have appeared here.
