About

The old Catholic cemetery is the most popular historical burial site in the Friedrichstadt area. It was founded by Elector Augustus the Strong, who established it in 1720-1721. More than a hundred years later (07.09.1842), a chapel was also erected and consecrated on this site.

Now, tours are conducted here. Tourists can view over three hundred rococo, baroque, and classical style Catholic burials. Some of the deceased had gained fame and popularity during their lifetimes. Notable individuals include composer Carl Maria von Weber, illusionist Bartolomeo Bosco, German artist Adrian Ludwig Richter, and comedic actor Carl Philipp Morlteno. Additionally, the burial sites of Polish immigrants here serve as a unique reminder of the Polish-Saxon alliance.
