About
The Minaret of Kesik is famed for having changed not just its masters but also its "profession" several times throughout its long history. Interestingly, despite numerous metamorphoses, the landmark has outlived every conqueror, becoming a true gem in Turkey's crown.
Kesik began as a Roman temple, which, after four hundred years, became a Byzantine sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Just a century later, the church was seized by Muslims and converted into a mosque, and after that, the Crusaders once again renamed it a Christian church. Today, the Kesik Minaret is known as one of the most popular attractions in Antalya, a favorite backdrop for photos among visitors and tourists to the city.
