Zaragoza

Begin your exploration of the majestic capital of Aragon near the stone lions on the banks of the Ebro River. To the right is the enormous complex of the Catedral Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar. This Baroque-style basilica is adorned with four tall bell towers. Ascend to the rooftop for stunning views.

Relax by the fountain at Plaza del Pilar, which connects the Basilica and La Seo, the Cathedral of Zaragoza. Inside the cathedral, you'll find 30 chapels with unique frescoes and sculptures. Your ticket to the cathedral also grants access to the tapestry exhibition at the Museo de Tapices. Nearby, you'll find the local history and archaeological museums. From the Puente de Hierro, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the historic center and the stone bridge.

Behind the Basilica, a fragment of the Roman wall with high defensive towers has been preserved. Nearby stands a monument to Caesar Augustus, after whom the city is named. You can learn about the city's Roman heritage on the Caesaraugusta historical route: the forum, baths, and theater.

Stroll through the historic city center along Calle del Alfonso from the Basilica to the Palacio de Sástago, renowned for its Renaissance interiors. Be sure to include visits to the Museum of Goya and the IAACC Pablo Serrano Center for Contemporary Art in your itinerary. The best shopping in Zaragoza can be found along Paseo de La Independencia.
