About

St. Michael's Church is a parish Roman Catholic church in Vienna. It was founded by the monks of the Order of Saint Michael in 1792 and has previously served for a period as the imperial court's parish. The church houses a large crypt, where about 4,000 esteemed and noble citizens of Vienna are buried, and which is open for tours. The church is primarily designed in Baroque style, except for the western facade, which is in a Classical style. The main altar inside the building is adorned with a monumental alabaster in Rococo style featuring the sculpture "The Fall of the Angels," symbolizing the descent of angels to the altar.
