About

The Cathedral of Simeon and Anna was constructed by the order of Catherine the Great, with the famous architect Rastrelli overseeing the process. The building was designed in the characteristic eighteenth-century Baroque style, complete with obligatory wood carvings and a restrained opulence.

Originally, the Cathedral of Simeon and Anna did not hold such a high status and was simply referred to as a church where local residents regularly gathered. The temple underwent numerous reconstructions and renovations, especially after the devastation of World War II across many cities and countries. Today, the restoration of the cathedral has been halted, mainly due to a lack of funds, but this does not prevent tourists and city guests from reverently visiting the shrine and often spending time inside it.
