About

The Jelgava History and Art Museum, named after Gederts Eliass, is often referred to by its "true historical" name Academia Petrina. Built several centuries ago, this museum is the second oldest among similar cultural establishments in Latvia.

The collection of the Jelgava Museum boasts no fewer than 80,000 exhibits, which can detail the ethnography and customs of the Zemgale region. A special emphasis in the museum's exposition is placed on the tragic events of World War II. By the way, the museum was named after the painter Gederts Eliass, whose collection of paintings holds a place of honor in the gallery. A distinctive feature of this venerable Jelgava institution is the cast-iron cannons displayed like guards in front of the main entrance, as well as the "Stone of Destiny," dedicated to the heroes who liberated Jelgava.

Ajalugu ja hulgaliselt kunsti. Torni küll ei pääsenud, sest see avatud teistel päevadel.

Väga hästi sisustatud muuseum. Palju vaadata, pilet odav. Üks tärn selle eest maha et torni ei lastud.
