About

"Quo vadis?" − "Where are you going?" − inquires a peculiar sculpture of a "Trabant" car, moving on four human legs. Why does this odd monument stand near the German Embassy in Czech Republic?

Avant-garde sculptor David ČernÝ expressed his vision of the period when GDR citizens were arriving en masse in Czechia in "Trabants" and seeking political asylum at the FRG embassy. Germans fled, trying to find a better life, and their abandoned cars were then acquired by Czechs.

This sculpture was the first in a series of controversial works by the famous Czech. It was originally installed under the cover of darkness in 1990 at Old Town Square, and almost a decade later, the legged car moved to the park of the Lobkowicz Palace, where the German Embassy is currently located.
