About

Within walking distance from the very center of the city, one can find the Minorite Monastery - an unpretentious, yet cozy complex of buildings and inner courtyards.

Founded in 1350, the building served as a place for caring for the sick, housed statues, altars, and a small church, access to which is open today for every tourist. Most of the structures are done in Baroque style and are distinguished by their luxury, especially after the restoration of the complex. The rich decoration of the temple and the inexplicable coziness of the park area attract hundreds of new guests annually: locals and foreigners alike. Historical inaccuracies and mysterious legends create a special atmosphere around the Minorite Monastery, so enticing for curious visitors. Occasionally, the place can be found completely deserted, allowing one to enjoy a walk through its lonely streets.

In the oldest district of Český Krumlov, Latran, not far from Krumlov Castle, behind a baroque arched gate, lies the Minorite monastery, better known as the monastery of the Knights of the Red Cross. This is one of the mysterious and hidden places in the city. The monasteries of Český Krumlov are a unique district in the historical center of the city, registered on the UNESCO list. The exhibition introduces the history of Český Krumlov and its monasteries. At the entrance to the exhibition there is a model of the monastery complex, including its gardens. It is easy to see why monasteries are an important part of Český Krumlov and what role they played in the formation of the city. The exhibition correctly shows the period from the first written mention of the city in 1253, its heyday during the reign of the Rosenbergs and the establishment of monasteries in modern history, as well as the dissolution of the Minorite monastery in 1950.
