About

If we look at the Flemish part of Belgium, the City Hall in Bruges stands as one of the oldest buildings that have reached us in their original form. The City Hall has undergone more than one restoration, managing to carry through the centuries the timeless image of the Middle Ages.

The two floors of the building are adorned with grand window niches in the Gothic style, which reach skywards. Each niche houses gilded sculptures with the frozen expressions of the counts and countesses of Flanders. The interior of the City Hall is rich with frescoes under the oak pointed arches. Visiting the Renaissance Hall, one can see a huge marble fireplace, which still can give its warmth to the cold walls. The first floor hosts a virtual exhibition that introduces tourists to the city's historical heritage.

We liked the tour in the area. Especially with the local market at the square which you can shop for great vegetables and fruits.
