About
Earns-Berge-Strasse, just a stone's throw away from Potsdamer Platz, grimly stands the GDR border tower, one of those unfortunate three hundred that were lined up along the Berlin Wall not so long ago. Once, soldiers and a commander, armed with rifles and a pistol, inhabited here - all to prevent people from crossing the imaginary border. Gloomy, grimy windows and small embrasures, from which it was convenient to open fire - powerful searchlights searched for the next victim, piercing the darkness, cutting it into pieces with bright beams. Today, cars quietly stand around the tower, couples stroll, and office workers rush to their jobs - as if there were no tears, unspoken pain, and hearts abandoned at the crossroads. As if the wall had never stood and sentries had never paced.
