About

Contemplation, profound meaning, and re-evaluation - here, there are no stunning beauties, gold, or glittering magnificence. Instead, there are ranks of stones, as strict as if aligned on command for inspection, perfectly even rectangles - gifts of death, the legacy of Homo sapiens. The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe comes to life before your eyes, one needs only to approach the horrors, read the notes, glance at the torn diaries, and the worn pages of the victims. Names, surnames, dates, and portraits - several halls for respectful silence and 2,711 stone blocks, like tombs for heavy memories. An entire field after a bloody and abundant harvest - Jewish sorrow in the midst of Berlin.

Ein sehr beeindruckender Ort, Mahnmal für den Holocaust! Aber am eindrucksvollsten ist das Museum darunter. Unbedingt besuchen!

Beautiful Memorial that was very moving. Ensure to view the underground memorial as well. There are plaques requesting respect and quiet from the people walking through the memorial, however many children were yelling, screaming, playing, running and even jumping from top to top of the blocks. Many times these activities were the children engaging with their parent/guardian. Very disrespectful. More of a "security" or staff presence within the memorial would be beneficial.
