Alicante

The gem of Costa Blanca is famous for its wonderful climate: warm winters and summers without extreme heat. Begin your exploration of the Spanish resort of Alicante at Playa de la Postiguet - a sandy beach with a Blue Flag and views of the Santa Barbara Fortress and Cara del Moro. To visit the fortress, take one of the two elevators that go through the Benacantil mountain. Enjoy the panoramic view of the bay from the trails of La Ereta Park. Watch the cruise liners and yachts from the docks at the port.

Stroll along the legendary Explanada de España, featuring a tricolor mosaic made from seven million stones; here, you’ll find numerous cafes and bars, and in the evening, you can catch a free concert. At Plaza Puerta del Mar, take note of the tall building in neobaroque style, Casa Carbonell. During the summer heat, enjoy a walk along the fountains near the Town Hall.

The most striking photographs of the old town can be taken on the streets of the Santa Creu district, which is filled with artisan and artist shops. Visit the Concatedral de San Nicolás - the blue domes of the church are visible from afar. Alicante’s main summer festival, Hogueras de San Juan, begins at the round Placa de los Luceros with its tall fountain; there is a metro station nearby. Head to Mercat Central d'Alacant for gourmet delicacies.
